A recent large British study has interestingly indicated that obesity by itself may not be such a large risk factor in pregnancy. If obese patients do not have risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension or previous Caesarean section, their need for obstetric or neonatal care is even lower than the risk of normal weight women having their first baby. This suggests that the multiparous obese women who are otherwise healthy would be expected to do well during a pregnancy.
