By reducing the number of babies that go past their due date, the neonatal death rate in a recent very large Danish study of seven hundred and seventy thousand women showed that the neonatal death rate was almost halved. There is also benefit in reducing the risk of traumatic delivery of a large baby that goes well past the due date.
