The National Institute of Clinical Excellence has recently updated its guidelines on intrapartum care. This advises that women in labour should have one to one midwifery care. There appears to be some benefit in delayed cord clamping, particularly with preterm neonates. This allows some of the placental blood to be transferred to the neonate reducing the chance of anaemia.
