For some time we have been aware that high grade serous ovarian carcinoma mainly arises from the surface cells of the fallopian tube. A lead author of a recent publication, Dr Ian Harley, Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist from Northern Ireland, recommends being proactive. If the opportunity arises among the women who have completed their families, removal of the fallopian tubes at the time of hysterectomy could help reduce the incidence of ovarian cancer.
