In the past teenage girls and now boys have been vaccinated with quadrivalent (against four sub types HPV). A recent improvement in this vaccine to include five other viral sub types should further reduce the incidence of pre-cancer and cancer of the cervix. It is an area in which Australian researchers have been prominent. This new vaccine has been licensed by the FDA in December 2014 and has been recommended by the Centre for Disease Control.
