Ankles, feet and hands often swell a little in pregnancy because your body is holding more fluid than usual. Towards the end of the day, especially if the weather is hot or if you have been standing a lot, the extra fluid tends to gather in the lowest parts of the body. You should seek medical attention if your face, feet or hands swell up suddenly.
There are some steps you can take to prevent swollen feet and ankles:

  • Avoid standing for long periods
  • Wear comfortable shoes
  • Get up and walk around every hour for 5-10 minutes to help fluid circulate if you sit for long periods at work.
