ART conception slightly increases the risk of adverse outcomes for mother and baby. At a recent R.C.O.G. Conference in Malaysia, Professor Arulkumaran noted that there were more adverse events and perinatal risks for mothers undergoing ART procedures. Obstetricians have been aware that mothers involved with ART procedures are at high risk. In developed countries 4% of all children are born after ART. There is a high risk of hypertensive disease, prematurity, low birth weight and a high perinatal mortality. Even taking into account age, parity and fetal sex. This confirms my view that other Obstetricians will need to maintain a high level of surveillance for women who have undergone ART conceptions.
