A recent large trial from the United States has shown that induction at 39 weeks for low-risk pregnancies reduces the risk of Caesarean section. There was also a reduction in need for neonatal respiratory support in the first 72 hours of life for babies whose mothers were induced at 39 weeks.
This is a very large and major study, and is certainly food for thought.
